If you are a subscriber on the CavsPlace.net network (operated by Cavalier Broadband) and are receiving this web page when attempting to surf to any web site, it is because we have been alerted to an issue with your network connection that requires us to quarantine your connection to the network until the issue is resolved.
This
could mean one of several things:
1. Your computer is
sending out email without your knowledge.
2. Your computer could be infected with a virus.
3. Your computer is running an application or program which violates
our terms of service.
4. You are using a personal router which is misconfigured and/or
unsecured.
5. We have received a legal communication asking for your cooperation
in resolving a dispute for an illegal download (like a music file or
movie from a non-paid connection of some sort, you probably know what
we mean) with a copyright owner.
6. Your computer is somehow interfering with normal network operations.
7. You are using someone else's wireless router that is quarantined.
At
this point, your connection is disabled (quarantined) from Internet use
on our network until we feel the issue is resolved to our
satisfaction. Plugging your computer into someone else's connection
in your building will result in this same message. It might also
result in all network connections to your apartment being turned off
remotely, so please be courteous and don't do that.
If you
are using a "wireless" connection that belongs to someone else,
stop using it and use your designated Ethernet outlet in your room. If
you connect to your designated outlet only (disable your wireless), you
might not get this message.
If you
are using a Bit Torrent
(peer-to-peer file sharing) application, it is adviseable to make sure
you are not "hosting" or acting as a server on the network. It is also
adviseable to limit the number of connections to no more than "100" to
keep your computer from consuming too much in the way of network
resources. We do limit the amount of bandwidth this type of application
can use, but we commonly see PC's with thousands of connections and it
does cause a general "slowness" on the network where that is occurring.
If you don't limit your connections for Bit Torrent and it causes
issues, you will receive this message.
If you
are using SKYPE, it's important to shut down and exit the
program when not using it. SKYPE has a way to automatically promote a
PC with a fast enough connection as a "supernode". If this happens,
your PC willingly cooperates and routes thousands of Internet phone
calls for the Skype network simultaneously.
It
is recommended you disconnect your Ethernet cable and disable your
wireless card altogether to prevent further damage to your system, in
the event your system has been compromised. The longer a compromised
system is exposed to the Internet, the more difficult and time
consuming it becomes for the system to be returned to a proper
working state without reformatting your hard drive and losing all of
your data and applications.
If you are already aware that your
system has a problem (virus alert warnings, broken firewall,
uncontrollable pop-up ads, etc.), it behooves you to have this remedied and
we strongly urge you to have the issue resolved before calling us to
have your connection re-activated.
While our normal support
hours are Monday-Saturday 8AM-8PM and Sunday 1PM-8PM, we only provide
resolution issues for subscribers with this message between 9AM-5PM
Monday through Friday, as it usually involves resolution of an
associated network abuse ticket. Please call our helpdesk at (434)
984-8428. We'll be happy to discuss your individual case with you between 9AM-5PM Monday
through Friday if you are receiving this message.
It's
also important to note that if there is pending legal action, your
connection may be suspended indefinitely.
Thank you.
